Final Fantasy Resonance demo guide and checklist
Free demo available since 3 September 2026
The free demo is out now, and your save transfers to the full game
According to Square Enix, the demo covers the opening through the end of Chapter 1 and takes about 3 to 5 hours. Chapter 1 is the same as in the full game, apart from some level restrictions. When the full game launches on 22 October 2026, you can transfer your demo save, subject to the rules below.
Save transfer rules
- EXP past the cap is lost. Levels and other progress are capped in the demo, and EXP you earn after reaching the cap is not stored or carried over.
- Transfer before you start a new game in the full version. The transfer only works if no save data for the full game exists yet.
- To transfer again, delete your full-game save first. After the first transfer, later demo progress cannot be brought over unless you delete the full-game save data (from your system's Home Menu, Square Enix says) and transfer again.
- On Steam Deck, the transfer uses Steam Cloud. Turn on Cloud Save Data for both the demo and the full game (Settings > General > Cloud Save Data).
When you transfer, any Chapter 1 trophies and achievements you earned during the demo unlock automatically in the full game.
Checklist before launch day
This checklist is based on Square Enix's rules above and the store listings. We have not tested the transfer ourselves; the game is not out.
- To be safe, play the demo on the platform where you'll buy the full game. Square Enix's instructions describe transfers on the same platform and do not confirm cross-platform transfers.
- Stop grinding for EXP once you hit the level cap. Any further EXP is not stored or carried over. Square Enix has not published the cap itself.
- Finish what you want in Chapter 1 before you transfer. After the first transfer, further demo progress only carries over if you delete your full-game save and transfer again.
- On Steam Deck, switch on Cloud Save Data for the demo now, and for the full game once it is installed.
- Do not start a new game in the full version before transferring your demo save. An existing full-game save blocks the transfer.
- Check the purchase deadlines if you want the bonus items. The Magitek Airship & Squire Starter Pack is only for pre-orders. On Steam, the Squire Kickstart Pack is available to anyone who buys by 6 November 2026, 8:59 am Pacific Time. After you reach a certain point in the story, you can collect the items from the postbox in front of the inn in the Town of Mitra. Full details are on the editions page.
- Check your free space. Steam lists 15 GB of free space for the full game on PC; sizes for other platforms are in the table on the demo length page.

On Steam, the demo is a separate free app (4474710) linked from the main game page. On the Nintendo eShop, use the demo download button on the game's page for your console.
What the demo includes
- Story: the opening and the entire first chapter, set in the Kingdom of Grandshelt.
- Battles: the turn-based command system, including the timeline and staggering (see combat explained).
- Exploration: Square Enix says you can freely explore all of Chapter 1 as it appears in the full game.
- Limits: "some level restrictions apply". Square Enix has not said what the level caps are.
Square Enix has not said whether you can access the Sephiroth fight or the Colosseum in the demo, so we cannot confirm whether either is included.

Does Final Fantasy Resonance have a demo?
Yes. A free demo came out on 3 September 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
Does the demo save carry over?
Yes. Square Enix confirms demo save data transfers to the full game, as long as no full-game save exists yet. EXP earned after reaching the demo level cap does not carry over.
