Final Fantasy Resonance release date: 22 October 2026

Square Enix has announced the release date, but not an exact unlock time. The PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listings include a timestamp, and each is set for midnight on 22 October in that store's primary time zone. Each country's store uses a single release time, so in time zones behind that one (US Central and Pacific; Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth) the listed time falls on the evening of 21 October.

It is the first Final Fantasy game in Square Enix's HD-2D style (the style of Octopath Traveler), which combines high-definition pixel art with dynamic 3D camera angles. Square Enix describes it as a tale of Crystals with turn-based battles, chocobos, espers and airships, and appearances by series heroes such as Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light.

The story follows Rain and Lasswell, knights of the Kingdom of Grandshelt, and Fina, a girl with no memory who emerges from the Earth Crystal, as they pursue Veritas of the Dark to protect the remaining Crystals. See the character list for everyone Square Enix has profiled so far.

Is it just Final Fantasy Brave Exvius?

It adapts the first story arc of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Square Enix says it is "far from just a direct port" and has been "refined and extensively rebuilt" as a console RPG.

Is it a gacha game?

Square Enix has not described it as a gacha game, and its announcements do not mention random draws. It is a paid, single-player game ($49.99 Standard). Note two things: the PEGI rating shown on Steam includes an "In-Game Purchases" notice, and the Deluxe item pack is also sold separately (the Nintendo eShop lists a Digital Deluxe Upgrade). How long is Final Fantasy Resonance?

Square Enix has not given a length for the full game. It estimates 3 to 5 hours for the demo, which covers the opening and Chapter 1. You can read more on the demo length page.
