Character profiles

These summaries are our own wording of the official profiles. Square Enix has not published a list of which characters join your party, so we do not label anyone as playable.

Rain

Protagonist

A knight of the Kingdom of Grandshelt who commands an airship squadron despite his youth. He tries to protect everyone rather than pick a side, and has unresolved feelings about his father, Raegen, who left the family and vanished.

Lasswell

Deputy commander, Rain's childhood friend

A Grandshelt knight who matches Rain in skill and serves as his deputy in the airship squadron. Orphaned at a young age and raised by Rain's family, he is disciplined and dependable, yet often gets caught up in his friend's impulsive decisions.

Fina

Mysterious girl from the Earth Crystal

She emerges from the Earth Crystal with no memory beyond her name. She is skilled in white magic and archery and can talk to espers, but does not know how she acquired these abilities.

Veritas of the Dark

Antagonist, one of the Sworn Six of Paladia

An armoured warrior who shatters the Earth Crystal and plans to destroy every Crystal.

?????? (name not yet revealed)

Mysterious woman

She bears a deep grudge against Veritas of the Dark, travels with Bahamut and mainly uses offensive magic. She teases Rain, but beneath the banter lies a firm resolve.

Nichol

Strategist of the Olderion Federation

Nichol comes from a family of Wardens of the Waters, who guard the Water Shrine. Tactical and objective, he still gets dragged into the antics of Rain and his companions.

Lid

Airship engineer from Dirnado

Lid is competing to become the next "Cid", the title given to Dilmagia's top engineer. She fights alongside Mechabo, a mechanical chocobo she built.

Jake

Leader of the rebels against the Zoldaad Empire

Jake is easily distracted but devoted to freeing his people. In battle he relies on luck; his abilities include Coin Toss and Gamble Shot.

Sakura

Sage of Mysidia

Sakura looks like a young girl, but her real age is unknown and she speaks like someone far older. Her magic is exceptional, though her origins remain a mystery.

Final Fantasy heroes from other games

Characters from earlier Final Fantasy games appear as Visions, crystallised essences of past heroes. You equip a Vision to learn its abilities. Square Enix says Visions of legacy heroes are found at vision crystal sanctums around the world.

  • Named in the announcement: Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light.

Two more returning characters are confirmed in other roles. Square Enix has not said whether they are also Visions:

  • Sephiroth, revealed on 3 September 2026. You can find and challenge him; defeating him unlocks a special reward.
  • Gilgamesh, the wandering swordmaster, is listed among the side content.

Espers (summons) also return. Bahamut is the only esper named in the character profiles: the mysterious woman travels with him.

Is Noctis or any other hero in the game?

Not announced. Only the returning characters named above have been confirmed. We will add others when Square Enix or the stores name them, not from datamines or rumours.

Places named in the profiles

The story starts in Grandshelt, the Kingdom of Knights. The profiles also mention the Olderion Federation (Nichol), Dirnado and Dilmagia (Lid), the Zoldaad Empire (Jake's enemy), Mysidia (Sakura) and Paladia, whose Sworn Six include Veritas of the Dark. These characters come from the first story arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, which this game adapts.
